Getting ready for winter

I potted up the Pygmy Date Palm, Tibouchina grandifolia, Cavendish Banana, Shrimp plant and one large hardy banana for the conservatory for the winter.

Planting

I planted the Leptodermis pilosa 'Masahi Pink' by the path in the One Of Everything garden and the Leptodermis oblonga by the Amsonia. I transplanted a Gumpo Azalea from the back under the Loquat to the One Of Everything garden. I planted an Agave lopantha 'Splendida' by the path in the Camellias And More garden, a Richard Harland Boxwood in the Five Trees Garden, and a Lespedeza thunbergii 'Spilt Milk' by the Jade Snowflake. I transplanted a rooted stem of Kumson Forsythia by the Bald Cypress. I planted Black and Blue Salvia by the croquet lawn. I dug up a Dwarf Burford Holly along the pool fence and replaced it with a Variegated Needlepoint Holly.

Pre-emerge

Sprayed Atrazine on all lawns except the Bermuda.

Planting

I planted 4 Bergenia, 8 Catlin's Giant Ajuga, and 13 Firestar Dianthus in the Mail Box Garden. Also Bertie and Always Afternoon Daylilies in the Daylily Fountain Garden.

Weeding

Hand weeded around the garden, here and there.

Planted all the Dwarf Mondo I have in the Pool Fountain Bed.

Mow and Edge

Mowed and edged all lawns.

Irrigation

Made the sprinkler head in the berm taller.

Planting

Planted the Harland Boxwood that had been recuperating in the conservatory in the Five Trees Garden, and moved the Northwind Panicum, replacing a Variegated Chinese Privet. Potted up 3 Lantana from the Mail Box Garden and replaced them with 3 Miscanthus adagio from the side of the bed. Planted Lemon Princess Spiraea and Flirt Nandina in the One Of Everything garden and 4Ever Goldy where the seedling Japanese Maple had been on the right property line. Transplanted the Variegated Acorus from the Pool Fountain Bed by the sprinkler heads in front and by the berm.

Transplanting and planting

Moved the Young Lady Smoketree from the One Of Everything garden to the back by the Jade Snowflake and planted a Golden Spangles Camellia in its place. Moved a Gaura from the screen porch area to the conservatory side. Moved the Abelia mosanensis closer to the screen porch.

Planting and transplanting

Transplanted the Knockout Roses from the front to the mail box bed and put 2 Abelias, Sunshine Daydream and Mardi Gras in front where they had been, along with the Gold Rim Serissa.

Planting

Planted a Silver Cloud Box Honeysuckle in the One Of Everything garden and moved some Variegated Acorus to the same garden. Moved the Curly Juncus from the Pool Fountain Garden to the front.

Planting

Moved Shishisgashira Japanese Maple from the back to the middle of the front and transplanted the Helleri I dug up to plant Blue Feathers in the front also. Planted another Yoshino Cryptomeria and a Teddy Bear Magnolia on the left property line.

Planting and transplanting

Dug up the Willow in front. Moved the White Chocolate Crape Myrtle to the property line and planted Mr. Spock Mallotus in its place in the island. Planted a Yoshino Cryptomeria behind the Yellow Osmanthus. Moved a clump of Crocosmia down the property line to make room for the Crape Myrtle.

Planting, cuttings

Took cuttings of Panama Red Hibiscus and Iochroma for next spring. Planted Northwind Switch Grass, Scarlet's Peak Holly, Cheyenne Sky Switch Grass. Potted up the ailing Summer Snow Hydrangea, cuttings of Baccharis angustifolia, Crown of Thorns, stringy sedum and sedum/agave.

Planting and transplanting

Moved the Color Guard Yucca and split it, planting one by the front door and one by the courtyard gate. Also dug up one Helleri and planted the Blue Feathers Cypress by the gate. Dug up the Gardenia by the pool fence and planted a Blue Cascade Isu in its place. Planted the Craibiodendron which had been in the conservatory, and the Mahonia gracilipes by the garage side. Planted a new Aztec Grass by the garage side. Dug up the Gaura from the side of the perennial bed and planted it in the One of Everything garden, moving the Purple Coneflower to the perennial bed. Also planted Meringue Coneflower and Amber Mist Coneflower in the perennial bed. Potted up some yellow Pansies and the Cliftonia. Replaced a dead Soft Touch in the perennial bed and added 2 Harbor Belles by the croquet lawn. Potted up some Muhlenbergia which had reseeded in the garden.
